Liberty tells the story of the history of the Statue of Liberty from the original conception as an idea by the creator through its construdtion and delivery to New York. It mentions what she means to the country and how she became such an important symbol of freedom around the world.
Although it is a bit wordy, I could see us reading it bit by bit over the corse of a week or so during a Patriotic unit where we are discussing the various symbols of America. It offers a lot of interesting facts about her size that could also be used as a math lesson.
This book goes into great detail of how the idea for the Statue of Liberty to be built came about and how it was constructed. It was a very informative book, but it was also very long. I don't think that reading this to a classroom would be a good idea because I think the students would lose interest. At the end of the book is specifications with measurements for all parts of the Statue of Liberty and also a timeline starting from the date that the idea of the Statue of Liberty was born until the last time the Statue of Liberty was restored. There is also a bibliography informing readers where the author got the information for the book from.
