Heartwarming Christmas story, rather like the Christmas in Little Women. It's a decent read aloud for children, but I'm not sure I'd consider it essential Christmas reading. On the other hand, I think we want our Christmas stories to be a spotlight on the best in humanity, and on that basis it has merit.
Very sweet, and, one would think, a typical Christmas story. But it's mostly true, as an author's note attests. I liked learning little details like how to make the 3D paper stars, and about the Partners who helped this widow, and about the comic strip Foxy Grandpa.
Christmas is coming but there isn't enough money to live much less celebrate. That is, until a large box arrives. The children speculate as to the contents. Is there a Lion in the box???
A story from the author's friend's life, poor kids at Christmas.
