Oh my goodness this is surprisingly wonderful. I learned so much that I didn't know, even though we had 'woodchucks' at my grandma's farm. And the friends' commentaries are a hoot. The illustrations are simple, but I looked closely and saw details of both content and technique that I don't often in early readers. I will definitely look for more by the author, and maybe by illustrator, too.

The groundhog is not satisfied with just one day, and so declares Groundhog Appreciation Month -- and proceeds to tell all his animal friends why he deserves an entire month. This is a fun and informative book with great illustrations.
We liked how full of facts and interesting information this book was while presenting it all so entertainingly. The premise of "The" Groundhog wanting more air time is great.
without a whole lot of books on Groundhog Day, this is decent. Lots of interesting facts about groundhogs, but doesn't flow particularly well and contains, what I feel to be, unnecessary attitude and sarcasm. I already deal with enough of that coming from my 6 year old as it is without the encouragement of storybooks.
Great factual information about the groundhog, what they eat, where they live, all that good stuff. The asides are a little distracting and I feel they can be skipped.
This book is a great read for younger age children who are learning about groundhogs around Feb 2nd groundhog day. It explains in detail about how they deal with predators, make their homes and live life. Can be a good read aloud for a science lesson as well.
