Description
With Christ in the School of Prayer: It is under a deep impression that the place and power of prayer in the Christian life is too little understood that this book has been written. I feel sure that as long as we look on prayer chiefly as the means of maintaining our own Christian life, we shall not know fully what it is meant to be. But when we learn to regard it as the highest part of the work entrusted to us, the root and strength of all other work, we shall see that there is nothing that show more we so need to study and practice as the art of praying correctly. show lessTags

Available in Archive.org (https://archive.org/details/withchristinscho00murr). Absolutely phenomenal. Good title for contemplative reading. I have been living out some of the things I then encountered in this book and it answered a LOT of questions as to what was going on (and if it was even possible/real).
Not finishing. Read half. Repetitive. Some chapters were good, and then others had logic that was so convoluted I had to read several times before I decided I was too tired to try to follow his train of thought. There are verses which were pulled out of context and stretched to fit his point. Seems to be very mystic and emphasized the “experience”. Not much practical advice.
Challenging to say the least. I am not familiar or comfortable with Andrew Murray's writing style, but the biblical truth carries this book along and I appreciated the insights. God did some toe stepping while I was reading this book which indicates the author was on the money.
Times change, but God's principles of prayer are timeless. That's why With Christ in the School of Prayer is as alive today with power as when first written more than a century ago. Andrew Murray reminds us that only when the Church gives herself up to the holy calling of intercession - a calling that Christ Himself ever lives to perform - can we expect the power of Christ to be manifested on the Church's behalf.
Another of Andrew Murray's works set in 31 short chapters so it can be used as a devotion through a month. The topic is wonderful, his insights are sharp and practical, the whole book is convicting and encouraging.
I have the 2008 Wilder Publications edition and the editing was poorly done, which detracted a bit. But the book is very worthwhile.

(Andrew Murray, quoted from the Preface of this book)

- Of all the promises connected with the command "Abide in me," there is none higher, and none that sooner brings the confession, "Not that I have already attained, or am already made perfect," than this: "If ye abide in me, AS... (show all)K WHATSOEVER YE WILL, AND IT SHALL BE DONE UNTO YOU."

- (Click to show. Warning: May contain spoilers.)I do not despair, by God's grace, of obtaining any blessing, provided I can be sure it would be for any real good, and for the glory of God.
