Kirsten is afraid when a band of Ojibway (who we call Chippewa) Native Americans comes to trade at her cabin, but her surprise turns to anger as one of them calls her raccoon. She angrily responds that he's an ugly muskrat. She is terribly upset by everything that has happened, but when "ugly muskrat" saves her dog, Caro, from drowning in frozen water, she realizes that she has misappraised him. She thinks that she will give him a new name, if she has a chance. ( )
