I enjoy turmoil (so long as it isn't ridiculous) and this had plenty of turmoil!! At the end of the day it is the story of lovers too young to trust themselves or each other - exactly the sort of story to create lots of friction mixed with some misunderstandings. It suited my mood ;) I'll be looking for the next in the series.
Four & a half stars--Oh Cameron Dane, can you write no wrong? I really liked this story. It's an emotional roller-coaster, future readers be warned but definitely worth the price of admission. Two firefighters in love? Can it get no better? Two ex-best friends who were also first loves reunite after thirteen years with some angst, heartache and love.
Aidan and Ethan were still possessive over each other even with years apart. Their love was the key focal point and I felt the author made it come across through her words. I enjoyed their bickering, fights and make up sessions.
SPOILERISH:
They both were virgins and waited for each other throughout the years. I liked that aspect of the story and felt it made it unique.
But when they had sex show more for the first time - no stretching - ouch.
I recommend for lovers of M/M Romance definitely. show less

This was an interesting read, kinda angsty and with much drama. The writing style was engaging and the return to young love premise is one that I enjoy. There were also many manly firefighters. Noice! It is set in a small town and there is just something about this that really appeals to me. I love that feeling of community it engenders and that there is the possibility of more show more books in the series as you get glimpses of other characters lives.
I enjoyed the read but got about two thirds the way through and it was like the author got a bit lost. The sex scenes were hot but peppered with very anatomically correct words that totally yoinked me out of the moment. Not sure I want to read something that sounds like it was written by my Year 11 science teacher. The plot meandered a little at this point and flowed less seamlessly than it had earlier in the book. Also, certain facets of one character meant I found it pretty difficult to suspend my disbelief, with regards his lack of experience. It gets back on track though and despite some of the problems I had, the book on the whole was a not a bad wee read. Certainly an author to keep an eye on! The cover is also VERY pretty and created by the tremendously clever Anne Cain. Definitely got my attention!

Aidan and Ethan were high school best friends. Both misfits among the other students, Aidan with a troubled past of juvenile criminality and Ethan always being the odd boy, they found in each other the perfect companion. And if there was more between them, they didn't talk, till the graduation day, when they shared a kiss and promises of a future together. But the morning after Aidan was gone without any explanation, and Ethan had to spend the following 13 years wondering what he had done to push away his best friend and wanna-to-be lover.
Now Aidan is come back in town, and he makes clear that he wants Ethan back, as friend and lover. He is aware that he has some explanation to do, and he is willing to go to Ethan's pace. But even if he show more has good reasons for what he did, Ethan is still to hurting for Aidan's betrayal, and above all for not knowing nothing about him in 13 years; and then Aidan never asked about him, how he was doing and if he needed a friend, and Ethan did and a lot.
The story is tender and the sex is hot. I really don't understand the big problem of Aidan, the reason why he left; all right, family is important, but we are not talking of a death or live event, and Aidan consciously made Ethan have the worst period of his life without giving him any hope for the future. So, no, I don't like very much Aidan's past actions, but at least he is repentant, he knows that he is on the wrong side and he tries to make amend. On the other hand, I like all of Ethan; he is sincere and a good boy till his core; I like above all that he doesn't let go as soon as Aidan knocks at his door, but he makes the man suffer... 13 years of silence deserves a bit of suffering!
As I said the sex is very hot; only four long sex scenes (plus an assolo...) in 160 pages, but they are all quite intense, above all the second one, where the sex almost edges in pain, when Ethan needs to let go all his pain to a stronger emotion.

While I found this a good read, the characters never really burrowed under my skin.
Aidan and Ethan meet when they were teenagers. As their high school years passed, the two become quite close. Then, the day after graduating and admitting their feelings for each other, Aidan mysteriously leaves town. He returns twelve years later, popping up in Ethan's life during a stress-filled time.I've loved all Dane's books so far. This one is no exception. I enjoyed the plot, liked the characters, etc. However, if you like your romance/erotica without a lot of angst, you may not like this book. There are times when I want a light-hearted read; other times, I need the catharsis from overcoming conflict/tragedy. I definitely got the latter from this story. My only real complaint is about the epilogue, which has a scene slightly show more reminiscent of I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry but not as funny. show less
