When Grandpa's teeth - handmade by Swiss craftsmen, and very, very expensive - go missing, nothing that his family, police Officer Rate, or the townspeople do seems of much help in locating them. Even an appearance on the television show Unsolved Crimes fails to turn up any leads! Sadly, this nefarious crime soon has the entire town in an uproar, as citizens begin to lock their doors, suspect one another, and (worst of all) relentlessly smile, in order to demonstrate that their teeth are all their own. Those manically grinning faces are hard to maintain, and also start to scare the tourists away, and soon a town meeting must be called...

The solution to the crisis (and to the crime) are really quite amusing - children will get a kick out show more of the droll illustrations, and quirky storyline in Grandpa's Teeth. Missing teeth and suspicious smiles, oh no! The idea that smiling all the time is actually not such a good thing - something with which I agree wholeheartedly, as I think sometimes we get obsessed with a showy kind of 'niceness' these days, disregarding the need for genuine emotional expression - is very welcome, and flawlessly delivered in a story that will have kids giggling. I can just imagine a storyteller reading Grandpa's lisping lines, and getting quite a reaction from the audience! Recommended to anyone looking for humorous stories for younger children. show less
One morning, a man wakes up and realizes that his teeth have been stolen. His family searches all over for the missing teeth and when they cannot find them, they call the police. The family hangs up wanted posters with a picture of the teeth all over town. Everyone in the town begins to smile at everyone they see to make sure that the teeth they have in their mouth really belong to them. Eventually, all the people in the town put a dollar or two into the collection plate at church to buy the man a new set of teeth. After he gets his new teeth, everyone in the town is much happier. This was a comical book about the search for lost teeth.
I had never heard of this book before and I'm very surprised because it was fantastic. It was fun to read because of the Grandpa's speech impediment due to his missing teeth. The turn of events that follow the family's initial panic is genuinely funny even to a jaded 20 year old.
A hilarious chain of events novel about grandpa's missing teeth. A book meant to be read out loud that pictures and words help bring this book to life. Grandpa wakes up one morning and finds his teeth crafted by the finest swiss man missing and sets out on a mission of finding the terrible person who stole his teeth! Great read aloud book about whodunit that keeps children's attention throughout!
I loved the way that this book was written. It was funny, it taught kids a lesson, and it makes them think. An absolute joy of a book to read.
This book is about a grandfather who thinks his dentures have been stolen. He alarms his family and then calls the police to investigate. Although the crime remained a mystery, grandpa was awarded new teeth by the town's Mayor.
This is a cute realistic fiction book that talks about a grandpa losing his teeth and the struggle that his family and the town go to to try and find them. The town ends up pitching in a dollar or two to get him some new teeth and in that we learn a good lesson about working together. This story helps people to empathize with other people as the grandpa is very sad when he loses his teeth and it has a good message as the townspeople help solve his problem.
