730. Selected Fiction (of) Henry James, (includes: Daisy Miller; Washington Square; The Aspern Papers), edited by Leon Edel (read 28 Apr 1963) Daisy Miller, a 1879 work, is a short tale of an impossible American girl in Europe, and her bloodless friend, Mr. Winterbourn. Washington Square, a 1880 work, is enthralling. Reminds me of Jane Austen. a plain girl pursued and jilted by Morris Townsend and how he gets his come-uppance. The Aspern Papers, an 1888 work, is the story of an effort to gain access to papers of a famed, Byron-like, writer from his now ancient mistress. Laid in Venice. Well-done.
