There is nothing better than a brief dip into a book of lists: perfect for lavatories and waiting rooms, this book of days also makes an ideal gift. Although it celebrates Leap Years, nothing really memorable ever happened on February 29th - except the 45 BC inauguration by Julius Caesar of his new ‘Julian’ calendar.

My birthday marks the leap year births of Jean-Antoine Watteau and Giuseppe Verdi, while my husband, born in a leap year himself, shares a birthday with Martin Luther. If you enjoy all sorts of fascinating and irrelevant trivia, this book deserves a place in your loo
