From one of the world's most beloved novelists comes a triumphant historical romance that sweeps from modern-day Virginia to 1873 Colorado, weaving a time-travel tale filled with adventure, tenderness, and passion that only New York Times bestselling author Jude Deveraux could deliver. Master chef Kady Long is about to be married to one of the handsomest men she's ever seen - not her dream man, but she's given up finding him. Petite and curvy, Kady suffers from low self-esteem pretty much everywhere but the kitchen where she's the master of all she surveys. Days before her wedding she buys and old truck on a whim and on opening it, finds a gorgeous wedding dress from the 1800's - and it fits. Trying it on, however, catapults her back through time where she meets yet another handsome man - he's not her dream man, either, but she ends up marrying him anyway, only to end up back in the 20th century.
If that's not convoluted enough, enter yet another handsome man - a descendant of the 19th century hunk, and she seems to show more have inherited all his millions.
Overly complex and a bit jumbled, this isn't Deveroux's best, but it's not her worse, either. show less

I loved this book. I have been hooked on time travel since Time Machine. Deveraux packed so much into this and even when I thought we have reached the end of discovery, she always had more to offer. Highly recommended.

I liked it - I'm a fan of JD, but I did struggle with the heroine having three men all in one book that were falling all over her. I mean, I can see one as the antagonist and one as the protagonist, but three? And then I wasn't clear on why she had to go back through the portal later. Seemed to me she'd finished her journey, except maybe JD didn't have a high enough word count so she had to send Kady back through the portal one more time - no, two more times, wait . . . everybody jump in and let's see who jumps out. Yeah, that part I didn't care for. I don't believe in messing with events that will alter the future. Someone won't come back through because they've never been born (and in this case, one of them didn't). It was a little show more too far-fetched that since they fixed the issue in the past, the guy that Kady ultimately ends up with should have not existed (even though they tried to allow for that).
Again, I liked it - it was light reading, but maybe a little more suspended reality than I like. show less

I love Jude Deveraux's stories. They are generally simple, well thought out, with a good surprise or two along the way. This one definitely kept me guessing. Kady is getting married to Gregory, and is the leading chef at a small place called Onions. Her life is going according to plan and then she finds the perfect wed...ding dress. Dress and all, Kady falls through a ripple in time to save Cole from the hang man's noose in 1873. Legend is a beautiful old mining town in the mountains of Colorado, with some dark secrets. As Kady discovers the truth about Legend, she also learns the truth about her own life. A parting promise to a woman long dead sends Kady on a second journey she hadn't expected, one that changes her life, and the lives show more of many others. Full of surprises and memorable characters, Legend will grab you, and leave you wanting more! show less
I enjoyed this complex time travel story especially the first half. Renowned chef Kady planning her wedding travels through time, saves Cole from hanging, he falls madly in love with her (my favorite kind of romance) and so much more. The ending was a bit overdone but a fun book overall.
I read this book at the recommendation of a friend. I'm so glad I did. This is the most entertaining book I've read in a long time. In addition to romance, it also contains time travel which is one of my favorite elements and lots of twists and turns in the story. A very fun read.
After reading this book, the only thing that stayed with me was Kady's nifty trick of rolling herbs between layers of pasta dough. That was interesting and fun. This book was neither.
