I was about to pick this up for a reread since I’ve run out of BBW HRs and don’t remember anything about it, but the reviews say that there is a fairy godmother character that makes the heroine skinny. Even if the hero fell for her when she was still plump, I despise that kind of storyline! I love me a heroine with low self-esteem but that detail makes me drop my original review down a star and leave it off the to-reread shelf. ( )

I really liked Wishes with the not so perfect fairy godmother thing going on. This book was really a fun read. I love how we are reading about Chandler, Colorado again and get to take a peak at Houston and Kane Taggart (Twin of Ice) Jace Montgomery comes to town and turns "fat" Nellie Grayson's life upside down. I devoured this book from start to finish. It pleased me so much that someone like Jace that could really love Nellie was able to see how wonderful a person she was when many others just took advantage of her. Fantastic book! ( )

I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand i obviously enjoyed reading it (finished it one day), but the ending infuriates me. Wishes is another Cinderella story, however, instead of a wicked stepmom and stepsister, we have a cruel father who plays favorites plus an envious and manipulative younger sister. Cinderella, aka Nellie, is kind and beautiful but is an emotional eater so she's overweight. Prince Charming, aka Jace, is a handsome and wealthy widower. And Berni, the fairy godmother, is a dead person trying to atone for her misdemeanors. I like the authors' idea of the afterlife, I like Jace and Berni, but I dislike it that Nellie's character remained weak. I wanted her to stand up to her abusive father and sister and for them to at least show remorse for everything they put her through. She deserved a better "happily ever after." ( )

Totally brainless but it was fun to read & I liked the points made even if they are obvious. Spoilers. Except they aren't. Just today there was a question to the advice columnist from a guy who was dating a great girl but she was fat.... I read this book, and the horrible treatment by the family is way over the top, but how different is it from what many of us experience? She just had them verbalize what everybody else thinks. It really did speak to something inside me.
