I appreciate the value of literature that is groundbreaking and revolutionary for its time, especially The Outsiders. While I found this book to be an important piece of literary history, I was disappointed in the quality of its prose. However, many books that are lacking in writing make up for it in story quality. I felt that this book accomplished that. For being so young and inexperienced at the time this novel was penned, I was impressed with the maturity with which the author was able to capture and articulate difficult moments. Hinton was also able to bring the characters to life, consistently describing emotions and viewpoints at levels appropriate for characters of their age. However, I felt that there was a bit of an show more unrealistic feel to the living situation of the Curtis family. I don’t feel that any state government would have allowed situations to continue as they did in the book. It was a bit too “Boxcar Children-y” for me. Finally, I was a bit distracted by the dated vocabulary of the novel and would worry that this minor detail would prevent some teens and young adults from being able to relate to, and ultimately gain enjoyment from this novel. show less
The greasers fight the soches in this great book about teenage boys in the fifties. Johnny and Pony Boy get into a scrap and one of the drunken preps catch a switchblade in the gut. They run off and seek help from the other broken home tough greasers like Dallas while they lay low and rescue kids from a burning school. It's a touching novel for any teenager looking for a rough and tumble with some heartache.
A group of Generation Xers and Baby Boomers playing like they are in the mid-1960s as a bunch of punk gang members. A good show for those who grew up in the 1980s and maybe boomers who reminisce about the good old 1960s days.
the outsiders is based in the 1950's with this family of brothers they dont have a mom or dad theres 3 of them ponyboy darrel and sodapop and there bigest rival are the socs. the socs badly injure and threaten to kill Ponyboy but some of his gang happen upon the scene and run the Socs off.the guys meetsome of the socs ex girlfreids and they start dating pony boy and darel so the socs came and tries to beat up and kill ponyboy so they go to dally so he can help him run away and he gives him 50$ and directions to a hideout out of town and they wait until he comes and picks him up then they help a school group from a fire and become heros but then dally get shot by police officers at a grocerys etc. i like this book because the story can show more be seen much clearly of 1 of each generations of americans. i kind of like this book and i recomend this to almost evryone show less
