Description

How did the ordinary 20th-century foot soldier feel in the midst of a major battle, not yet aware that he was making history and lacking the vital information known to his commanders? Mixing fact and fiction, an author of more than a dozen military books takes us into the heart of the action in Mons, the Somme, Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, Vietnam, and more, showing us real events through the eyes of imagined characters.

"Faction" - I've never come across a book like this and would not have bought a copy, except that this book came in a box set of ten Cassell Military Paperbacks. The back cover writes only of Soldiers yet one of the twelve subjects is a US Marine - that sort of inaccuracy puts me off straight away. Surprising from a British author that one of the twelve wars is not the Falklands War of 1982.
