I picked this one up from the stack a couple of hours ago for a quick mindless read, and it fit the bill perfectly. It's pretty formulaic - independent, feisty, and of course blindingly beautiful woman runs headlong (figuratively) into devastatingly handsome, independent, gruff and possibly cruel man. Sparks fly. The inevitable happens, but neither will admit it's love. They separate, they reunite and admit their love. Ta-da! I'm a writer!

But the characters are lovable and the story, while not believable, is readable. I did zip through it in just a couple of hours, after all.
This is just a run-of-the-mill romance, with all of the proper elements... instant attraction followed by a personality conflict, reluctant surrender, a situation that makes it impossible for romance to continue, a dramatic event where true feelings are revealed... all that's missing is the ripping bodice. A fun read if you’re into that sort of thing.
Typical early contemporary Brown. The characters make or break her books.
