Ce roman rocambolesque, diaboliquement comique, savant alliage de fiction, d'histoire et de légende (selon R. Valentini) a pour héros un ambitieux hypnotiseur et neurologue, nationaliste conservateur allemand, érotomane, qui débite les cerveaux en rondelles pour traquer le génie. Une vision corrosive de l'Allemagne impériale, vaniteuse et matérialiste.
