** spoiler alert ** Cara and Sybil, born in the same house but classes apart. On one side you have the Allardyce's who are wealthy and on the other there are the Caffrey's who start as down and outs but build themselves up to be a respectable working class family.

Nancy is central to both families, she is there for them, their children. Outside of the family there is Fielding who we are led to believe have died along with Kit in the Malta bombing but when Cara visits her in London we realise that is not the case much to my relief, she really is great fun.

I cannot fault this book, a true gem.
