Rorik abducts Mirana, the sister of his enemy Einar, and takes her back to his stronghold on Hawkfell Island. She's an independent Viking woman who defies him at every turn and even helps the other women on the island show some independence from their alpha male Vikings. This baffles the strong men and leads to some amusing situations as well as some brutal events. Rorik has strong feelings about Einar who killed his family and raided his household which he takes out on Mirana.
This first part of the book was interesting, but then the story became a bit too "Marvelish" with constant improbable action sequences to wrap up the story. The ending took away from my enjoyment as a result, but I'm on a Catherine Coulter reading kick right now, show more so I'll continue on with her other back catalog. show less
