Little Rabbit enjoyed her life in the city, with all of its amenities and activities - sitting in her favorite cafe, being a part of the bustling throng - but sometimes, in the quiet of the night, she felt terribly lonely, and longed for a companion - a little rabbit just like herself, with whom she could talk and play. And then one day, falling asleep in the local park, and waking up after dark, she discovered just that, and struck up a friendship with the little brown musician-rabbit she met. When homesickness eventually draws her back to the city, will she be separated from Brown Rabbit? Or can a middle ground be reached...?

A sweet tale of finding friendship, while also maintaining a sense of self, and of home, Moon Rabbit, which is show more written and illustrated by Scottish author/artist Natalie Russell, creator of Hamish The Highland Cow, makes for an appealing little book. The artwork, in particular, is absolutely charming! I loved Russell's use of color and shape, her quirkily stylized rabbits, and appealingly checkered moon. I can't say that I was quite as impressed with the narrative, although I did find it an enjoyable little story. All in all, this was a pleasant first "outing," with this author - I think I will try to track down the "sequel," Brown Rabbit in the City. show less
I chose this book because of how drawn I was to the beautiful cover. The illustrations throughout did not disappoint; I really liked the style of drawing and the abstractness of it. This was a sweet story about a rabbit who loved his life in the city, but when he looked at the moon, he wondered if there was another rabbit like him somewhere out there. Little Rabbit finds a rabbit like him in the park under the moonlight one night, and they become fast friends. Eventually, Little Rabbit misses the city and has to go back, but his friend comes to visit him soon. I feel like this book sends a sweet message to kids that there is always someone out there like us. It's also a lovely thought for children that we are all looking out at the same show more moon, and you never know who is out there looking at it too. show less
Little Rabbit loves the city, but at night she wishes she had a friend - a rabbit friend like her. One day, she is in the park at night and hears lovely music. She follows the music and finds...a little rabbit just like her! Together they enjoy music and stories and the outdoor world of the park. But after a while, Little Rabbit misses her city home and returns to the lights and activities she loves. She's no longer lonely though, because soon a special friend is arriving on a visit...

Shades of blue and gray fill in the background of this gentle, silvery story of friendship and the joy of having your own place in the world. A perfect bedtime story and also a good choice for children with long-distance friends or relatives.

Verdict: show more Lovely art and a sweet story. This one may not be a huge hit at storytime, but is sure to find a small but enthusiastic group of fans.
