Description
Gareth Morgan′s book is designed to develop the art of reading and understanding organizations. He works from the premise that our theories and explanations of organizational life are based on metaphors that lead us to see and understand organizations in distinctive, yet partial ways. He demonstrates how the use of different metaphors provides new ways of managing and designing organizations. His book also stands as a treatise on metaphorical thinking that contributes to both the theory show more and practice of organizational analysis. show lessTags

This was recommended to me by a collaborator for a possible visualization project. I have no experience managing, so it's hard for me to judge how useful this might actually be. I did have fun applying the metaphors to various place at which I've worked. However, the prose was somnia inducing. There was also something about the typesetting... too much weight? which was would induce a trance state after a few pages.
One of my favourite tools and approachs for understanding organisations. I read it for the first time back in the 1980's and was excited to see that you can see an organisation from many different perspectives and all them also be "true". Its an insight I use all the time to the present day. All too often the organisations lack the language and insight to know why they have problems.
Testo molto utile sia come compendio e riassunto delle varie teorie organizzative basate su metafore, sia come fonte fonte di interpretazioni e schemi originali.
