Second Chance
3.5 Stars
Series note: Cole's backstory and connection to Keeley is related in book #3, Run to Me. That said, Reece provides sufficient detail for this book to be read as a standalone.
A good addition to the series although some of the events require a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief, and the ending is very contrived.
Cole and Keeley's romance is the highlight of the book. They have tangible chemistry and their painful pasts make them the ideal match. The secret-keeping trope is handled well without too much angst (which is not easy to do), and the resolution is satisfying.
The suspense plot has a strong start and the villains are suitable smarmy. Unfortunately, it takes a turn for the worse toward the end as the show more mastermind is easy to guess and the motivations are contradictory and inconsistent with details presented earlier in the book. It's almost as if Reece lost track of her character.
Getting updates on previous couples in the series is an added bonus and the next book focuses on McKenna, who is a bit of an enigma. I look forward to her finding her HEA. show less

I'm becoming more and more addicted to this series with every passing book that I read. Here we have Cole, who suffered through some pretty hard things in his life already and now has to come face to face with the wife of the innocent man he's killed.
I think both Cole and Keeley were incredibly strong willed characters who had some awful things happen to them and now are thrown together toward a single goal that is getting Keeley's daughters back. Their relationship slowly built around a horrible situation, but it ended up being a wonderful thing in the end. I loved their interactions and their chemistry and along with all the great writing from Christy Reece, this book easily became one of my favorites from the series.

First thought: I am sad that there are only 4 more books in the series!
What I Loved: Cole, Cole, Cole, Cole! Ok so I have been looking forward to Cole's story because he was so damaged (like most at LCR). However, he was damaged even after being part of LCR. His story made me cry twice but the end was so rewarding! I love Keeley for him because she was just what he needed! Their love was a slow burn but so worth the wait!
What I Liked: Ethan and Shea being part of the OP! I think this needed to happen for obvious reasons with their history involving Cole. I think it was healing for everyone!
What made me go huh?: The only show more reason this wasn't a five was because the end was a bit rushed for me! I wanted a little more of Cole/Keeley happy.
Final Thought: Another good installment! show less
