I apologize if this review doesn't come across the way I'd want it to, but I'm half asleep from staying up all night to finish this story. With that said, on with the review.

Ms Reece definitely doesn't suffer from firstbookinaseriesitis. Once again, she has me hooked with a story even more suspenseful than the first. She's also a master of the sick and twisted as well as being able to squeeze some tears out of me, yet again. The prologue was enough to let the dread settle in as to where this show more story was going. We also find out (finally) why Noah seemed to be such a heartless SOB.

Noah seeks out Samara to ask for her help in bringing down internet predators. Fighting a shameful memory she is reluctant to be anywhere near him long enough to hear him out. His methods of persuasion are rather cavemannish, but Samara can't deny her nature to help children in trouble. Working together also means that the sparks fly.

The romance was steamy and sweet in some instances, but I think I was more riveted by the plight of the kidnapped girls and hoping the villains would get their comeuppance or meet their maker. Noah was an incredible hero. His past comes to light, and it was painful to read about, but it explains so much about why he does what he does and the man he has become. I wasn't surprised that it took him a very long time to acknowledge his feelings for Samara, and my heart broke every time he pushed her away. The suspense and heart fail was really good.

Samara may have started out as a sheltered and meek woman (and I say that with reserve), but her experience with the "mission gone south" pulled her blinders off very quickly, and she realized there was a lot more she could and should do with her life. Somewhere in there she even managed to find the strength to rescue Noah. I loved her stubborn streak and her vulnerability. Her character arc developed gradually; it was believable from beginning to end.

The wedding scene was the damn sweetest thing! It was pretty funny :)

I'm about to start the third book [b:Run to Me|6192481|Run to Me (Last Chance Rescue, #3)|Christy Reece|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1266564350s/6192481.jpg|6372782] and if the trend continues, this series is quickly becoming a top favorite of mine.

Ella Grace is one of those authors I’ve had on my “Ooh! Must check her out!” list, so I was thrilled to win MIDNIGHT LIES in a LibraryThings giveaway. I hadn’t read the first book in the series (MIDNIGHT SECRETS), but this second book certainly appears to standalone and I had no problem catching up with the sisters. There is definitely a Lora Leigh-esque feel to the opening of the book, where sex and anger are intimately entwined. Quinn is darkly passionate, but Sam goes toe-to-toe show more with him (go, Sam!), both in bed and out, and the pacing is absolutely dead-on. LIES is a darker romantic suspense with a small town setting—the perfect blend of high tension and a sweeter, lazy sensuality. This is also the first romantic suspense I’ve read that has all those delicious bits of a small town romance, but without the sometimes cloying cuteness… so although this is my first reading foray into steamy Southern suspense, I doubt it will be my last. show less
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.
"There was no future - not for them. Once this was over, he would return to the darkness where he belonged. Olivia belonged in the light. She always had."

Oh, how I have missed the men of OZ!!!

I really enjoyed Oliva and Nic's story. Although, I will be honest, I was pretty angry with Nic there for a while. You see, they had a plan. A monkey wrench was thrown in and things were said by Nic that he shouldn't have said, and actions taken that shouldn't have been taken.

When they realize that show more after a mission to take down a large cartel, their team members now have targets on their back, and two have already been killed, they come up with another plan -one that, frankly, I didn't agree with - but that didn't go as planned.

Betrayal, lies, manipulations, interference, danger, and more surround these two. My heart broke for both of them. They lost each other once. Will it happen again?

I love how this author writes her characters, male or female, as strong and vulnerable all at the same time. You just can't help but fall in love with all of them!

This was a great addition to the OZ series and I loved the little glimpses of the LCR group as well.

If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend you do so ASAP!! If you have, then you definitely will want to grab this one!!

Christy Reece can take a mere premise of an idea & turn it into the most riveting, intense story. Her characters are well developed & don't always act as expected. By every right, after being secluded & abused, Gabriella should have been the most meek, mild mannered woman alive. Instead, she ends up being a ferocious warrior determined to protect herself. Jonah is a hot, single minded protector. He's determined to find the person behind the killing of Teri, a woman that tried to help him show more bring down his corrupt brother & father. The journey these two take to find a future with each other is fraught with danger, fear, courage, death & love. Once I picked up this book, I couldn't put it down. This is another wonderful Grey Justice novel. Like all of Ms. Reece's books, while this is part of a series, each can be read as a stand alone. show less
