In the first Zorn Warriors book, the cruel Anzon aliens kidnap Ariel from Earth and make her a slave. When they find out their bodies aren’t sexually compatible, they offer her up as a prize to their Zorn slaves and force the men to fight in order to win her.
Ral, a beefy, gorgeous dark-haired Zorn, wins the battle. At first sight and sniff, he falls in love with her and binds her to him as his mate for life. After they escape their captors and go to the planet Zorn, however, their problems really begin.
I really liked this story. Ral is sexy, gentle, attentive, and he’s wild about Ariel. He’s also basically a prince to the Zorn people.
Ariel is a strong woman, but she does let him walk over her at times. I wish I could’ve learned show more more about her past on Earth. She misses her family and friends, but she never seemed too broken up about not being able to go home.
Love and romance bloomed very fast. I understand it from Ral’s POV, but Ariel seemed to fall head over heels a little too fast given the trauma she’d experienced.
Ral has an overprotective family—mostly a few sexy brothers and a really hot dad—and I enjoyed the family dynamics as they learn to accept Ariel, a lowly human, into their fold. Little do they realize the major changes that Ariel and the human race will bring to Zorn.
I have an older copy of this novella, and it could use an edit (misspelled words, choppy sentences, etc). Hopefully, the re-released version is in better shape. The story is told in third person, Ariel’s POV, but I would’ve liked to have read from Ral’s POV too.
I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.

This is a somewhat different-than-usual take on the 'I got abducted by an alien' concept. The kidnapped woman, Ariel, ends up being 'given' to one of the alien's slave races rather than remaining a prisoner of the original kidnappers. The Zorn, a group of men that now work as miners, are not everything they seem, and when they escape the situation changes significantly.
Ariel is, understandably, scared to death when she gets kidnapped, then passed on to a group of wild-looking men who fight over which of them gets to keep her. There is an automatic sort of bond with them because they are also prisoners, but she is still shocked because she is now considered 'property'. Not being able to return to Earth is a major problem for her show more initially. Luckily, she is very resilient.
Ral is a big surprise in more ways than one. Yes, he is tall, has more muscles than should be legal, and sounds like a total macho at first. But he also has a very keen understanding of what Ariel needs and quickly compromises on some of the things she finds difficult to accept about his culture. He faces an uphill battle though, and it takes a while before things improve.
I don't read a lot of f/m romance any longer, but this author was recommended to me by a friend. It was definitely worth checking this one out. The language and the plot are simple and straightforward, but the story had enough twists to keep me interested. The situation and the characters fascinated me from the start, and pulled me in to hold me captive (pun intented). I will definitely check out the other books in this series! show less

I really want to give this 4 stars because my brain switched off and went along for the ride, just enjoying the reading experience. However, I was aware of a couple of points when I felt uncomfortable with what was happening (rape-y), it's pretty much anti-feminist (think: caveman patriarchy) and may be offensive to some, there's insta-love/Stockholm Syndrome, and it wasn't the best story in the world. It's certainly not for everyone. But again, I enjoyed it. I feel slightly guilty for doing so, like I'm betraying my sisters. A guilty pleasure, it is then.
Another freebie from Amazon I got some time ago. I decided to clean up my Kindle, but the longer I read these books that were free on Amazon the longer I wonder why I torture myself?
Ariel is kidnapped from earth by aliens to be used as a breeder. But since they are not genetically compatible with us, instead the aliens give her to their slaves as a prize. Sex slave for a slave. You would think that's the worst fate ever. But those slaves (the Zorn's) all look like a romance novel cover models.
The only difference is they got very sharp teeth. Hey but look on the bright side - their sperm tastes like candy. TMI? Ok I will stop. :)
The other thing that bothered me a lot is a built-in translator chip they all had it in their ears (so they show more could understand each other). I would expect the software to be much more sophisticated and not to translate even worse than a Google Translate website. So the Zorn people (who are way ahead of us technologically) sound a lot like Tarzan. "Me Ral. You my woman. We have sex."
And don't get me started on 'sex chamber'. No, it's not a room on a ship, it's part of a female body. o.O show less

The story is too short, the main characters fall in love with each other too quickly (they talk about love but it seem only sex). If the author had focused a little more on the beginning of the story, on better explaining the background of the two protagonists, the enemy alien race, the abductions... perhaps it wouldn't seem a novel devoid of a part of itself. However, the world and creatures created by the author are quite interesting…I'll try with the next one in the series.
Zorn warriors series is so far the best of Dohner's work. It is an intergalactic-nookie series and i for some reason always enjoy those the best. The story-line was more elaborate then dohner's earlier releases, making it hot and interesting at the same time.
Oh, this is a good one. In an alien nation and not being compatible with Anzons, Ariel is the prize Ral receives. Ral is a Zorn and he has been abducted as well to do the mining for the Anzons. But when Ral and the rest of the Zorns manage to escape, Ariel has hope that she can return to earth. Can their love survive on a planet that doesn’t understand humans?
