HIGHLAND BLESSINGS by Jennifer Hudson Taylor is an inspirational historical romance/suspense. It is set in 1473 Scotland. This is this author's debut book and she is an author to watch for in the future. It is well written with depth and details and you can easily tell there has been a great deal of research, also the dialog is in the style of the period.This helps give the story its authenticity. It has faith, betrayal, forgiveness,suspense, adventure, romance, everything Scottish, murder, a pre-arranged marriage between two rival clans, and the coming together of two clans for peace. The hero, Bryce, is strong, determined, handsome, a born leader, tough, keeps promises he makes, has tenacity, faces the turmoil of betrayal, falls in show more love with the womon he kidnaps( due to a promise made for his dying father),and becomes a powerful, well liked laird which be becomes after the death of his older brother, Evan.The heroine, Akira, is humble, strong, has a strong faith,loyal to her clan, her new clan.She is determined to make her marriage work, even after she had been kidnapped on the day of her wedding to another. She was kidnapped in order to observe the pre-arranged marriage between her and Evan, the Laird of the MacPhearson clan. This is a powerful story of love, trust in your faith and learning to love even during times of angst and turmoil. I would highly recommend this story especially if you enjoy everything Scottish. "Highland Blessings" is one of those books you can snuggle up with and escape to another time and place. Jennifer Hudson Taylor's prose captured the essence of the highlanders and made it impossible to put down.

The main characters, Akira and Bryce, were two that not only captured my heart, but had my empathy as they tried their hardest to create and keep peace between the two rival clans. They were both strong, but each had a tender side that made them believable and memorable.

This has to be one of my favorite books of the year, if not all time. It's powerful, has a good moral to the story, and contains a great amount of faith. This one comes highly recommended!!!!

Highland Blessings is a wonderful story of adventure, love, and betrayal. It is the story of two clans, who have hated each other for many years, as they try to come together as one to make peace.

Akira MacKenzie is kidnapped on her wedding day by Bryce MacPhearson, a man from a rival clan. Although the two clans signed a peace treaty and agreed to have Akira marry the chief of the MacPhearson clan, Evan the chief of the clan had refused. Now that Bryce has kidnapped Akira, she starts to get to know more about the rival clan and about Bryce.

When Evan the man Akira was supposed to marry dies, Akira must now marry Bryce against her will. Seeing her father is not going to stand in the way of the marriage, Akira finally comes to terms, and show more decides to make the best of being married to Bryce. But as people of his clan start dying, will betrayal interfere with the love they are starting to feel for each other?

Jennifer Hudson's first book is a success, and I look forward to more books by her! show less

I received this as a freebie for my Nook. Based on the description it was right up my alley. Set in 1473 Scotland, this book has all the typical historical romance plot elements. Kidnapped bride, strong male character, and fighting clans. The other added element was religion. It was a bit too much for my tastes. I tend to read historical romance as an escape/getaway from daily life but his had none of the romantic action that other books in this genre have.

This was a great book. I love reading about the middle ages in Scotland. This book had love of God, love of family and lots of action to make it iteresting. I've read it several times and highly recommend it.
