Description

Temple Barr is a sharp and sassy public relations ace in Las Vegas whose life is finally taking a turn for the better. Hard-nosed homicide lieutenant Carmen Molina is too busy chasing after her own ex-lover, rogue L.A. cop Rafi Nadir, to pursue Temple's boyfriend, sexy magician Max Kinsella, and nobody Temple knows has been murdered ... at least, not in the past few weeks. Temple takes this downtime as a signal she should buy a new pair of Jimmy Choo spike heels, and accept the job of show more planning a glitzy week of opening events for a trendy new furniture showroom. Dealing with temperamental decor mavens is no problem for a woman who's saved leopards from big game hunters, tracked killers through strip clubs, calmed the cantankerous owners of Las Vegas's most glamorous hotel, and seen the ghost of Elvis-until the life of feng shui expert and media-crowned domestic dominatrix Amelia Wong is threatened. Suddenly Temple is neck deep in trouble ... and bodies. And Temple has one more problem-one she doesn't even know about: her roommate Louie, and his maybe-daughter Louise, have decided to make sure that Temple's search for a killer furniture arrangement doesn't mean curtains for her. Midnight Inc. Investigations, their PI firm, is on the case. The catch? Louie is Temple's cat. show less

Midnight Louis is on the case again, in tandem with his human Temple Barr. This time out he is being assisted by Miss Midnight Louise, a recent associate of his in his P.I. business.

A new high-end furniture store has come to Las Vegas. For their opening they are having a glitzy week of events featuring Amelia Wong, the darling expert of feng shui. Temple Barr has been hired as their public relations ace to organize and promote the multiple events. Not a hard gig as Temple is an expert at P.R. It does get hard when shattered show windows and dead bodies start appearing in the showrooms. Now Temple has the added job of finding out who is behind all the mayhem.

With Midnight Louie and Louise working behind the scenes the clues come show more together. The tough part is how Louie passes on his findings to Temple. Did I mention the Midnights are cats....black cats?

A fun read with lots of twists and turns, sort of light the layout of the showrooms. Some strange characters are to be had, such as the the rainbow hued Harley biker gang with name such as Peter Rabid, Psycho Punk, Killer Tomato and such....scary and threatening. Temple is able to disable them with aerosol olive oil and make a get-away. Then there are the Fontana brothers; smooth dressing, sexy looking guys who provide security for those that need it. The fact that it takes place in Las Vegas may give an idea to some of the crazy stuff that happens.

I've read Carole Nelson Douglas before and enjoyed the books. Fun, light and humorous.

Cats talk with each other, but act like cats with humans, but leave pointing trails of evidence when they solve crimes. Fun and romantic.
