In this book its about a trio of children on a rainy day who find "magic" chalk where there drawings become alive. This is a book that shows the importance and power behind having a vivid imagination. This book has great illustrations in some pages it show basic children chalk drawings on the sidewalk that then turns in vivid realistic creation. This can be a great book to use for encouraging student to use there imaginations or that no matter what you create it can become a reality.

The pictures are very detailed and realistic. There are several storyline and characters to follow along and talk about. Kids can come up with their own creative responses throughout. It’s an easy to follow story. ( )

This was a great book for me, because it really brought out imagination. The theme was to be careful for what you wish for. The characters included thee children in raincoats. The plot was that sidewalk chalk that was hanging from the mouth go a playground dinosaur, becomes magical. The color in this book is photo-real acrylic and colored pencils. There are darker colors at first and then brighter colors towards the end. There are also lots of sun and shadow effects. I would say that this book was mostly impressionistic because the different light-filled scenes contributed to most of the setting.

This was such a well done book that really allows kids to use their imagination. "Chalk" is about three kids who find magic chalk on the playground and everything they draw comes to life. They draw a dinosaur that chases them, and then they must problem solve to get out of the situation. They draw a rain cloud that rains on the dinosaur which causes it to melt into the ground. This book has amazing illustrations and is truly a page turner for children and adults as well! ( )

I gave this book 5/5 stars because the message was clear and the pictures had a lot to say. I like how the story promotes imagination and and curiosity with younger kids. For example, once the kids figured out what the chalk could do, they drew objects knowing they would come to life, and didn't have a limit on what they drew. In addition, this book demonstrates good problem solving skills. When the kids drew the dinosaur and then it turned dangerous, the kids figured out a way to protect themselves: by drawing rain so that it would actually rain and melt away the dinosaur. ( )
