The classic liberal philosopher of nineteenth century England, John Stuart Mill, used Considerations on Representative Government to call for reforms to Parliament and voting, calling for proportional representation, the Single Transferable Vote, and the extension of suffrage. Mill was a renowned political theorist and economist, a Member of Parliament, and one of the greatest advocates utilitarianism.

First published in 1861, this volume contains Mill's detailed discussion of his theories of democracy and the ideal system of government, in which he links his theories concerning democracy and representative government with contemporary political issues.

John Stuart Mill, Classical economist, was born in 1806. His father was the Ricardian economist, James Mill. John Stuart Mill's writings on economics and philosophy were prodigious.
