When Stephanie's Uncle Fred goes missing, the family asks her to look into it and since there's a dearth of bounties for Stephanie to bring in, she agrees. What she finds is that the disappearance of a harmless old man is possibly rolled up in something much bigger and scarier than anyone could have imagined.

Another solid entry in the Stephanie Plum mysteries with Stephanie continuing to get into scrapes only she could, flirting with very good looking men, and spending lots of time with her crazy family. Grandma Mazur is in fine form in this one and so many of her lines had me cracking up, I gave the book an extra star just for her. A bit of a sneaky cliffhanger in this one on the relationship front for Stephanie that will definitely show more have me picking up the next in the series. show less
As always, this installment in the Stephanie Plum series kept me thoroughly entertained throughout and flipping pages at a fast rate. I love Evanovich's writing style. It's quick and witty, and surprisingly funny. I rarely laugh out loud when reading, but every Stephanie Plum book has had me in stitches. I also enjoyed Stephanie's growing sexual tension with Ranger, as well as her ongoing "relationship" with Morelli. And the ending! Wow. Talk about a cliffhanger! A fun, light, easy read. Just what I needed while getting through a stressful time at work. (A)
Book number five in Janet Evanovich's long-running series about Stephanie Plum, bumbling bounty hunter. This time out, Stephanie is called upon to investigate the disappearance of her Uncle Fred. (Well, technically, he's her grandmother's cousin's husband, but whatever.) Inevitably, of course, things get complicated and dangerous and a little bit wacky from there.

These books continue to be feather-light, but I think the writing is getting better and more confident with each one, and, once again, this was a fun, fast read. My one real complaint is that I rather liked the fact that, for the first four books, Evanovich didn't feel the need for Stephanie to have sexual tension with both of the hot guys she works with, and now, out of the show more blue, that's no longer the case. It's done in a way that's transparently designed to string the reader along, too. Although at least when Evanovich writes sexual tension, it's actually kind of sexy, which isn't necessarily true for a lot of writers. show less
I think that this one is probably the best of the series so far. It had just the right mix of action, mystery, romance, and crazy people. I really hope that Briggs will be back throughout the series because by the end of this book I really grew to like him. I still don't like Ranger (probably because I like Morelli so much). I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Book 5 in the Stephanie Plum series. Stephanie's Uncle has disappeared and the family has asked her to step in and find him. Amongst his possessions she finds pictures of a disremembered body in trash bag. She also has a few FTAs to be found including a disgruntled little person. Along her path to finding her Uncle she looks into a trash company who is having some billing issues. She also destroys a few cars as we've come to expect the most spectacular is the blowing up of a new Porsche and then a trash truck falling onto the top of that. Fun easy read like I've come to expect from Evanovich.
Stephanie Plum is a sassy bounty hunter who starts out High Five looking for her uncle as a family favor (seeing as how she finds people for a living). Of course, nothing is as simple as it seems, and soon Stephanie is hip-swinging deep in a murder mystery, flanked by two very attractive, very sexy, strong men vying for her attention. The action never stops for Stephanie. If she isn't beating up an angry little person or gorging on junk food, she is being stalked by a rapist, narrowly missing being blown up by bombs (twice), or being harassed by a supposed bookie. Add a former prostitute, a sassy grandmother, an astute gerbil, and a sarcastic Arab teenager into the mix and the fun never stops. In a word, High Five is fun. Something I show more would appreciate of all series is the fact you don't have to read Four to Score in order to get High Five. The characters allude to previous Plum escapades, but they don't confuse the story at all. show less
This Stephanie Plum book is by far the best (so far) in my humble opinion. It's the doubled-over, wiping the tears from my eyes type of funny and unpredictable book. Stephanie continues to attract all kinds of trouble as she tries to bring in some minor criminals while searching for her missing uncle. We reunite with some of our favorite characters in this one: Ranger, Lula, Morelli and my favorite Grandma Mauzer, and meet some hilarious new ones: a midget who decides to camp out in Stephanie's living room and a bookie called Bunchy who keeps following Stephanie around. The characters really make this series and I can't wait to read the next one to find out what they are up to next.
