Short biography
François Furet was a French historian whose speciality was the French Revolution. Initially a Marxist, he became disillusioned with this philosophy and left the Communist Party in 1956. He went on to challenge the Marxist interpretation of the French Revolution as a form of class struggle. He described the Revolution as an inherently totalitarian regime.
