Hello!

I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your review of Homer's Odyssey and that, yes, Homer is still alive. If you go to the author's website (gwencooper.com) and click on Gwen's blog, you'll see recent pictures of him. The other two cats have, sadly, passed away, and Gwen Cooper and her husband adopted two kittens, a brother and a sister, one of whom is also disabled, to provide some feline company for Homer.

Like you, I was also so glad that this book doesn't end with death. It was certainly a relief to read an animal book that didn't reduce me to tears by the end by a moving eulogy, and one that ends on a happy note instead, so that I could close the book with a smile and imagine them living happily together. (I especially loved the unexpected part at the end about how daily presents from readers to explore and play with put the zest back into Homer's life and restored him to a youthful vitality.)

I was sad to learn later that Scarlett and Vashti had died, but considering the cats' ages, it was more of a surprise for me to find out that Homer still lives! He's one amazing cat!
