Since we publish it, we're naturally biased. We purchased this work because V does an excellent job of redefining the classic noir hero. We all see The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep on cable year after year. V took the elements that made these books/ movies great and made a new, modernized hero--a female Marlowe who redefines the niche. 50 pages in, we made the author an offer that couldn't be refused.

A step back in time to the 1940s when a $10,000 is a huge inheritance. When Kate marries a con man, she loses her money. She goes to Tennessee to recover it from his unscrupulous twin brother.

But this story has more than one thread, and the situations she lands in are "noir" which is not a favorite of mine.
