FJB agendid Fox Mulder ja Dana Scully ajavad metsas kummitava õuduse jälgi. Ja on, mida ajada...
Mis siis õieti juhtus põlismetsas, kus töölised võtavad maha iidseid puid? Kuidas saavad karastatud mehed lihtsalt õhku haihtuda?
Darkness Falls is a juvenile (age 10up) adaptation of an early X-Files episode. For an adult reader the writing is as one might expect - rather simple and run of the mill. However, the story is well told and I think if there are still such things as young fans of the X-Files series this would be an enjoyable read for them. Maybe enjoyable is the wrong world. If I were ten years old and reading this for the first time I could see myself getting scared in the second half. I remember this show more episode and enjoyed reading this short novel. The story is set in one of those creepy northwest rainforest settings where Mulder and Sculley are investigating the disappearance of some loggers. There is an eco-terrorist group on the scene, but we soon learn that they are in severe danger as well, although their spikes left behind cause danger and death to the surviving people in the story. I'm not sure how well this book tracks the episode, which my memory tells me was one of the very good early ones, but this is suitably creepy as "Nature fights back" just as those TV shows were.

The story ends with several events from the book unresolved. Sculley appears near death and the menace in the forest has not been contained. This was fairly scary and also fun reading. It reminded me how good those X-Files shows were sometimes.

Oliver Twist is a classic piece of English literature about an orphan and a gang of thieves, that everyone should have the chance to read in their lifetime. Unfortunately, the original text may be too difficult or mature for younger readers to enjoy and comprehend. Les Martin has adapted this classic story and transformed it into an abridged version for young readers. The first thing I liked about the book is its language. Although the original text uses terms that are advanced, this book show more simplifies the vocabulary without losing the spirit of the original novel. The second reason I liked the book was the way that it still incorporated illustrations on to the pages. The illustrations are simple and in black and white but give relatable images to readers so that they can understand and enjoy the book. They can also allow the reader to imagine what each character may look like, which is very important. Overall the big idea of the story is to show a young boys journey to find out who he really is. show less
This is a juvenile adaptation of the beginning of the X-Files. If I can trust my memory, this is a novelization of the first episode that introduced us to Mulder and Scully. I picked this up years ago, being a fan of the series, but never got around to giving it a read until now. It is enjoyable, but is geared to ages 10-up so written simply, and simply told. For those who remember the series, this is the episode where Scully is assigned to monitor Mulder, and they go off to Oregon to show more investigate the death of a young woman who bears strange markings that Mulder has seen on other unexplained deaths across the country. The cause of death is unknown, but we see her die while enveloped in a whirlwind and bright light in the forest. Then we discover she was not the first of the high school class of '89 to die. A good, quick and very light read. show less
