I was excited about this book, and I thought it would have a lot of genealogical information about my family. It didn't. It has a lot of general information about US history, and then it has a bunch of tables of general information. I'm not looking for the number of Tatum veterans buried by military branch- I want to know something about my history. Sometimes the information is interesting (like Tatum occupations in England in 1881- 3 horse hair weavers!), but mostly it's too vague to be at show more all useful. show less
Starting at 1840, this book gave no statistics or charts about the Harkless name in, say, Revolutionary times.
Our family legend purports that the first Harkless we are descended from came as a Hessian soldier who fought at Trenton, NJ and later deserted for the American side.
