Samuel Rowley (–1624)
Author of Thomas of Woodstock: or King Richard the Second, Part One
About the Author
The Noble Soldier listed here is the same play as The Noble Spanish Soldier, and is actually by Thomas Dekker (and probably John Daye), on whose pages it is listed under that title. The "S. R." on the title page of the first edition seems to be a printer's guess.
Rowley is the co-author (with fellow actor William Birde als Bourne) of the (mostly) comic additions found in the B-text of Marlowe's Dr. Faustus. Since most reprints of Faustus are based on the B-text, or are a conflation of A and B, Rowley and Birde are properly Marlowe's co-authors in all editions except those which specifically state they are derived only from the A-text.
