Jackson covers the history of many searches for the woodpecker. He also coveres the many areas in which searchers have looked. He also covers pretty thoroughly the history of the woodpecker's existence prior to 1935. Jackson's bok on these birds is unique in that he gives space to all the searches and historical sightings prior to the bird's sighting in Arkansas in 2004. This is a well rounded compilation of information.
