Sarah's Heart by Ginger Simpson is an interracial, historical romance with a rich and colorful story, gripping from beginning to the end. The Wild West, complete with Indians and settlers, is always fascinating and Sarah’s Heart begins right off with a major clash between both. Sarah is the sole survivor and so begins her journey. The first person to help is an Indian. Wolf cannot change who he is and just wants to be left alone instead of judged for what he cannot change. Sarah is show more terrified of Wolf until she realizes he is nothing like the Indians who attacked her. There is a constant danger as they travel towards the town of Independence, which adds to the interest of the novel. There isn’t a dull moment and as soon as Sarah and Wolf overcome one obstacle another presents itself. Independence doesn’t bring freedom for Sarah and Wolf, only acceptance. Thy must accept that while they love each other, society will never accept their love. The twist at the end is so unexpected, I had to read it twice, but I was ecstatic to discover that Sarah and Nate aka Wolf might just get their chance at love in the end.

Sarah Collins’s wagon train is traveling to California when it is ambushed by Indians and everyone is killed except Sarah. She stumbles upon an injured Indian and tries to make off with his horse, only to be cut down by a snake bite. Nathaniel Elder “Wolf” born to an Indian mother and a white father, awakens from his injuries and finds an injured Sarah. He nurses her back to health and promises to guide her to the nearest settlement. On the way there, they face many adversities. Being from both worlds, Wolf knows how to navigate both, although he is accepted in neither. The unlikely pair is often rebuffed for traveling together. Sarah eventually realizes Wolf is a truly good man. He could have abandoned her many times but he doesn’t. Their feelings are real but their love can never be, as society is not really ready for interracial love. The unimaginable happens at the end, that you’ll have to read to find out but it seems Sarah’s Heart might find a home with a Wolf after all.

From being left for dead after a terrifying indian attack to the life of a small-town teacher who has fallen in love with a half-breed, this is "Sarah's Journey."

Upon waking and finding all her friends and travel-mates dead and dying around her, Sarah must face trying to travel to someplace safe on her own without becoming another victim of a Pawnee war party. Traveling back in the direction she has originally come, she stumbles upon a young man who is injured and she fears may be dying. In show more her haste to get away from any other possible dangers she tries fleeing with his horse and supplies, only to have another obstacle crop up in her way, a deadly rattlesnake bite. Thankfully, Wolf, the man she had abandoned, found her and cared for her wound and saved her life. With feelings blossoming between them, but both denying them, they travel back to the town of Independence where they each face the intolerance and ignorance of others as they strive to make new lives for themselves. Will they be able to put the differences in their backgrounds aside to have a life together? Will society let them? Come on this journey and see!!!

Wow. What a good story. Ginger Simpson has created a wonderful western with so much depth and description. You can definitely tell that she put alot of heart and research into it. I loved her characters involved and especially their dialogue. Everything is so genuine, you feel like you could definitely get to know them on a very personal level. Sarah's intolerance of how people talk down, either to or about, Wolf is so heart-felt, you have to definitely relate and cheer her on. Now I will warn you, I didn't see this ending coming by any means, I was totally surprised! So run out and get yourself a copy today, this is a must read!!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a really good western romance with a surprise twist for an ending.

This book was kindly provided to me by it's wonderful author for my honest review.
