Short biography
Ephraim Katz was a film reporter and critic in Israel, before moving to the United States in 1959. He made documentaries for CBS-TV, including The Taste of Sunday, one of its first in color, and later for NBC-TV. He directed many documentaries, educational and industrial films, but his greatest contribution to cinema was his work The Film Encyclopedia (1979).
At the time of his death, Katz was in the process of updating it. He was married to Helen Katz, and the couple had two daughters, Alyssa and Laura.

This was my successor to Leslie Halliwell's Filmgoer's Companion, and it is a much thicker more complete book. Unlike Halliwell's book, it has enough meat to be a pretty fun browse, even now, though not as complete or ultimately as useful as IMDB.
The best single volume movie reference book around. This edition has a few new entries and new credits for older entries, but it could stand a completely new overhaul for the next edition.
reference book but badly out of date. still good for films and stuff before c. 1980.
