Good book. Jen had left her previous job after getting tired of the way she was treated. Then she ran from home after seeing her parents in compromising positions. She chose to take a job as assistant to Marshall Grainger. She was disgusted with the actions of people who claimed to be in love, so she was sure she would have no trouble with Marshall. He too did not believe in love. All he could see was people acting foolishly and would rather base a relationship on compatibility. Neither show more expected the instant attraction that they felt. I really liked both Jen and Marshall. Both were completely honest about their feelings at the beginning. Marshall realized that he really wanted a couple kids to leave his empire to and also to have someone to share his life with. His fascination with Jen worried him a little, but he felt that they were so compatible that they could have a good life together even without love. He was so blind to his feelings that I really wanted to smack him a few times. I liked the way that he could be so lighthearted with her and the way they were able to laugh and have fun. Jen couldn't believe how intense her attraction to Marshall was. She was stunned when he proposed marriage to her. She was very conflicted because she could tell she was falling for him and didn't want a loveless marriage. But she also didn't like the idea of no longer having him in her life. Both of them ended up having to face their demons before they could find their happiness. show less
There were two stories in one in this.
The first was the MD's Mistress by Joan Hohl. Nurse Becca Jameson has worked herself into exhaustion in an underfunded and understaffed African hospital. She's been working with Dr Seth Andrews and both of them are trying to avoid the attraction that they have for each other. When they get back to the US Becca gets an offer to recouperate in a remote cabin, a generous offer from a secret benefactor. Dr Andrews discovers that he misses her and things show more change when he visits.
Light stuff, predictable but not bad.
The second story is The Money Man's Seduction, Cole Preston is certain that his grandmother is being taken for a ride by Emily Raines, just like she's being taken for a ride by many other people who appear to be good but turn out to be scammers, what he finds surprises him and may change his life.
It's not a bad story, the two main characters are quite interesting people and I liked their romance story.
Overall both stories were fun, nothing earth-shattering but a diverting read. show less

This is one of those older "we're married, but he doesn't love me, so I have to hide the fact that I love him, and we have a bunch of misunderstandings" books. It wasn't as bad as most, because, with the exception of him raping her on their wedding night, he's not horribly mean to her, just negligent. Still not my favorite storyline.
I like Joan Hohl's romances. Her stories tug at your heartstrings, but ALWAYS provide a HEA for the main characters. They may not be the deepest books I read, but when I want to read and be happy at the end of the book, I can always pick up one of hers and know I'll be satisfied. "The M.D.'s Mistress" is her latest Silhouette release.
Becca has always been attracted to Dr. Seth Andrews. And working with him for over a year in Africa has only deepened the respect and longing she has for him. show more She knows he respects her skills as a nurse. Now if only he would notice her as a woman.
Seth has always admired Becca, and his body would like nothing more than to spend an extended amount of time all over her, above her, and in her. But he's just not the relationship type...work is too important. So he escapes to a small clinic in Africa; a month reprieve is all he gets before she shows up for her rotation. When she works herself into an illness, they are both transported back to the states. And try as he might, he just can't get her out of his mind.
An unusual gift from the "Anonymous Billionaire", and Seth's inability to stop worrying about Becca provides these two the opportunity to get a little, or a lot, closer.
