I ordered this book for two reasons: first, the author is Andrew Bonar; second, Leviticus is a book that I find particularly difficult. When I began reading it I imagined I would soon lose interest. In fact, I had trouble putting it down! This is one of the very best commentaries I have ever read on any book of the Bible. With this author's help I have come to love the book of Leviticus... indeed, I see Christ everywhere. What a precious commentary.
I'm not sure how to describe this book. Like many before me I have been deeply moved by reading it and praying over it. It is a book that has made me lose sleep - like no other book it humbles me to the dust that I am so spiritually feeble. McCheyne can, perhaps, best be summed up in his words, "It is not great talents God blesses so much as likeness to Jesus. A holy minister is an awful weapon in the hand of God." McCheyne strove to be like Jesus with a heart and mind only for the glory of show more God. I heartily recommend this book - and for those in ministry this should be mandatory! Very good instruction for visitation by the elders, deacons and Church folk.
The introduction is very beneficial and practical equipping the reader with insights and practical recommendations
