I'm not sure how to describe this book. Like many before me I have been deeply moved by reading it and praying over it. It is a book that has made me lose sleep - like no other book it humbles me to the dust that I am so spiritually feeble. McCheyne can, perhaps, best be summed up in his words, "It is not great talents God blesses so much as likeness to Jesus. A holy minister is an awful weapon in the hand of God." McCheyne strove to be like Jesus with a heart and mind only for the glory of show more God. I heartily recommend this book - and for those in ministry this should be mandatory! A great collection of sermons. As a collection of sermons it fulfills its task, and that very well. Thankful to have been introduced to this volume.
This book contains seven sermons, one each on the churches in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. The author offers valuable insights into the distinctives of these early church situations.
The shortness of time should make believers sit loose to all things under the sun
