As a huge fan of the original AD&D edition, I have to like the Fiend Folio. However, about 50% of the monsters in this book are completely useless, unless you want to throw them info the Huh? factor, or for laughs. On the other hand, there's about 20% of the monsters in it that I use all the time, including Drow.
Like many gaming products, especially the older ones, this supplement was a mixed bag. Yes, some creatures were instant favors and really added to 'mythos' of D&D. But too many others were just bizarre (and had dreadful names) and made little sense. The artwork was at best passable but more often dark, murky and crude-looking.
