I must have read this book a dozen times as a youngster and it still retains immediacy and excitement, largely because of the format : the book presents "the narrative of the Tests as it unfolded day by day" in Swanton's match reports. Maybe the language and sentiments are a little pompous at times, but Swanton seems to me to be always fair, unbiassed and of course vert well informed. Thoroughly recommended.
Fascinating account of the Ashes tours down under on which Jim Swanton reported. This represented the first eight post-war tours.
