I purchased this because I have family that lives in Peculiar, Mo it was a scifi and getting good reviews and it was under $2. I was somewhat disappointed as it didn't live up to the four star rating but it wasn't all bad. The story was pretty good until the alien developed magic powers and that just killed it for me. I liked it much better when the science was believable. It was still readable but not very compelling. All the characters felt more like stereotypes rather than actual people. show more The military types didn't seem real to me (former military though not combat arms). I'm very ambivalent about the ending as the main characters were just a side show and the whole thing was kind of anti-climatic.

Also needs some editing as there were a bunch of typos, double double words, etc.

Loved it. What an outstanding Kindle find. I felt the character development was very well done, the plot was solid and engaging. I hope to read more by Mr. Williams very soon. If you enjoy the science of Michael Crichton, I think you'll enjoy this as well.

Interesting short story. Stan considers his life after crashing in the desert and making a terrible discovery there.
