This is an excellent overview of the various tree species that flourish in the NYC metropolitan area. Each tree has a descriptive page devoted to it with pictures of its distinctive features such as bark, leaves, and flowers. In addition, there are beautiful photographs of the magnificent specimens that can be found in the area (with street addresses or park locations for the curious).
