A nice little survey of the international situation that incited the building of this program of fortifications, the defense system they were supposed to be the linch pin of, and how these constructions rapidly became obsolete. If I don't give this booklet a higher rating it's only because it feels as though the author is spreading himself a little too thin in trying to cover the history of these forts up to the present day in the number of pages available.

Harrington's book is comprehensive in its review of British military artists. Provides a great history of British military art. Well researched and written. Well done in every respect.
