I was introduced to The I Ching Workbook back in the mid-80's and it was truly an answer to my hopes of finding a legitimate Western interpretation of this ancient process. This workbook never fails to surprise me and those I have offered I Ching readings. It seems the more pressing the inquiry the greater the details of insight and perspective offered through the interpretations. The comparison of the long term evolution of the I Ching to that of the development of the Farmer's Almanac show more helps explain the nature of the 5,000 years of human observation incorporated into the 64 hexagrams. This workbook offers a concise review of the history as well as descriptions on just how to utilize and extrapolate the wisdom from this ancient 'technology.' show less
I have this book in English and German, In fact I have bought several copies over the years as it is a workbook and I have filled them all out and needed a new one. It is standard straightforward I Ching, and for the novice a good starting place and for the expert it make an easy way to journal your readings. I give a good rating mainly because it's like a dictionary, you alway go back to it and and makes for easy reference in an easy to understand format.
The set-up is not totally to my liking-it is not clear where to put moving line notes for each specific inquiry nor is it clear how to use the space for noting questions asked and results of "no moving lines". Still, I find it is revealing patterns in my life. It became most useful after 5-10 years as the pattern of the hexagrams i received for specific inquiries came back around. I had repetition early on but didn't believe or see the overall story my life was telling.
After over 25 years show more there is 1 Hexagram I have never thrown & there are 5-10 that I have only thrown a single time. show less
