This book, the little of it I read, looked like it was written to a formula that had check boxes next to it.
(* Richest girl in town trying to make it on her own - check
* Quirky friend - check
* Ethnic friend - check
* Handsome and rich, if anodyne, Mr. Perfect for a fiance - check)
* Sexy, handsome and dangerous guy from the past suddenly turning up - check = TROUBLE!
I actually read the book until I got to the phrase, "she arched a perfectly plucked brow". It was downhill all the way from show more then. I can't take that kind of writing seriously. Life is too short, I need to read something of quality, heh, I haven't read the ketchup bottle label yet.
I realise that as a non-romance reader, and non-Christian book reader that the book probably wasn't directed at me, but it didn't come with a schlock warning so how was I to know?

As one reviewer stated; this book "has a touch of mystery and a large serving of humor". I totally agree. I found myself smiling and laughing out loud a couple of times. Caroline Spencer is a single mom who thinks she is up for an adventure by chaperoning teenagers on their class trip to Mexico (and one of those teenagers is her daughter). Her daughter's best friend will be chaperoned by her single parent Dad, Blaine Madison (who has a hard time leaving work behind and enjoying time with his show more daughter). These two parents will learn to like each other, which quickly turns into stronger feelings for each other. During this time their daughters will unknowingly become part of an international smuggling ring, which will be realized just in time to save them from further danger to their lives. All in all this was a fun story to read and I enjoyed the romance and the interaction this lady had with the two girls and with the single Dad. She made this story bring a smile to my face. show less
The first thought that comes to my mind after reading Maire is that this is not your typical Christian historical fiction book! I would venture a guess that the genre was not as popular when it was written as it is now, and boy, it has an intense heroine. She’s going to claw, fight, and protect her beloved Gleannmara as its new queen…even if she has to take a husband sooner than she prefers while also keeping her guard up against the evil druid, Morlach.
Her husband, Rowan, is a loyal and show more dreamy hero with a devout faith in God – a faith that he is eager to share with Maire and her clan. Their homeland isn’t familiar with the One True God, only pagan rituals and druids that have them steeped in superstitious lore. Rowan longs to be a priest, but suddenly finds himself a king.
Maire has everything – action, drama, and a steamy romance – all tied up in a pretty package that will have you glued to its pages! There is a lovely intro told from Ireland’s perspective (Ireland is also known as Erin) that prepares you for some of the cultural language in the story. The first few chapters may take a bit of getting used to, but keep going – this is one worthwhile read! show less

The book centers around Ellen Brittingham (whom you met in 'Wedding Bell Blues'.) She is one of the bosom buddies and such fun to be around! She loves her friends, fixing cars, fishing, hunting, landscaping, driving a Harley Hog and Kids. She's a girl with a BIG heart.
On her way home one day she spies a sunset orange Corvette driven by a very handsome fellow named Adrian Sinclair. He also notices that it's a 'she' driving that Hog. After he runs over something in the road, loses his breaks show more and ends up in a cornfield, Ellen gives him a ride home which just happens to be by hers. They both sense an attraction to each other and she soon finds out he is a widower, has an 11 year old son named Peter and is engaged to Selena. (Bummer)
As Ellen and Pete begin to form a friendship, Adrain is feeling more drawn to Ellen. She has an easy way with his son unlike Selena. But what's a fella to do? Adrain is where he is because of Selena. Ellen is only his neighbor...right?
Here is where things get complicated....and FUN! You will love all the secondary characters and of course you get to see all the bosom buddies again!!! I found myself laughing out loud in many places and several funny lines that will stay with me for a long time.
I love the way Linda writes. Her easy style makes you feel like you are right there in Piper Cove.
I highly recommend this book. You can read it as a stand alone but I think you will enjoy it much more if you read 'Wedding Bell Blues' first. show less
