One of my favorites in the Thoroughbred series. A look at what life would be like for Ashleigh's daughter without her mother is heartbreaking and entertaining all in one. A great addition in an AU experience of Thoroughbred.
Quite possibly one of my favorite books of all time. Also, my favorite (along with Sierra's Steeplechase and A Horse Called Wonder) in the Thoroughbred series. In one way it is my favorite and in another it is my least favorite. This is the last of the series in Samantha's POV and the introduction of the character of Cindy- quity possibly my least favorite character in the series. The reasons I do like this book so much is because of the adult tones of Samantha's relationship with Tor and show more the connection she has with her horses. This shows, much like some of the previous few Thoroughbred books, how mature the writing becomes with time and those who read the series when they were younger could literally grow up with it. Unfortunately, Joanna Campbell stopped writing the series herself, not long after this. Other author's tried to keep the line going and while some books were good, they were not up to the same caliber. In my opinion, this was the last of the Thoroughbred series novels worth reading. show less
At the start of the book Ashleigh is in 6th grade. I was probably in 7th when I read the book. Over the next two or three years I read most of the books in the series, several times. I wanted to move to Kentucky and be a jockey. Then we got horses of our own and I realised just how much work they were :D.
This book was just as comfortable a read now as it was back then. And I could read it just as belie fast. Although I knew what happened in it I still felt a pang when the foal (named Wonder) show more becomes sick. I find Ashleigh’s reaction to be very believable. Twelve year old me would also have stayed in the stables with a sick horse (I would have done it now too).
I loved the books message about hard work paying off but also the message that we can’t always do it by ourselves. I liked the fact that Ashleigh had help from her friends and family in caring for Wonder when she got sick.
All in all a good read for a rainy Friday evening. It made me remember my younger self. It also made me want to go for a ride. show less

One of my favorites in the series. This book takes you a bit away from the world of thoroughbred racing as Sierra is not performing on the flat. Samantha and her boyfriend Tor, train Sierra to be a steeplechase racer. When Tor is injured and Samantha has to ride the rebellious colt, will they win? I enjoy this book so much because you can see the maturity aging in Joanna Campbell's series and there is hints of romance in here along with great horsemanship. Amazing book!
