This is a well written study in comparative religion. The authors certainly have the backgrounds and education to take on the subject and yet manage to make it interesting and enjoyable for the average casual reader looking for a better understanding of the foundations of Christianity and Buddhism.
In the Path of the Masters: Understanding the Spirituality of Buddha, Confucius, Jesus, and Muhammad by Denise Lardner Carmody
I don't share this book with anyone!?! This was a college text, but I've saved it because I've never come across a more insightful work on any of these four religions, and it's amazingly compact. If you have an interest in religion at all, in any of them, read this book.
This book purports to explore the role of women in religions, starting with primal societies and moving through the various major religions of the day. It was used as a text in a college class elective. It is written from a feminist point of reference.
