Oh my. This story just about killed me dead. I love Lee Savino and her stories, and I've been dying for more Berserker books, because I love the Berserkers. It was worth the wait, even if it made me all verklempt at times. I was sad and worried and hopeful. It was a roller coaster, but one I was glad to take. Even if I did get emotional. I think that Svein, Dagg, and Fern are going to be my second favorite trio.
Fern was one of the orphan spaewives that were taken from the abbey by the show more Berserkers. She met her mates, Svein and Dagg, when they grabbed her and carried her away. She got to spend a blissful couple of days with her mates before the Corpse King came and attacked them. Now she lives in a lodge on the mountain with all the unmated spaewives and young orphans, isolated on the mountain, listening to the wolves howl. Some of the Berserkers who guard them tell her that the monsters have gotten too close to the mountain and they are going to be driven away.
I love how strong Fern is. She knows what she needs to do and she goes out in the middle of the night in the middle of a blizzard to do what she knows needs to be done. That can't have been an easy thing to do. She was definitely stronger than she knew and much stronger than anyone else thought. Svein and Dagg had a lot to deal with and it couldn't have been easy for them at any point.
I am dying to see how what happened in this book moves the story ahead, because there are going to be huge things coming, and I can't wait. show less

Holy kink, Batman! I have to tell you, this month has been an absolute game-changer for me in the reading department. Seriously, I can’t believe I’ve just discovered this incredible author who has me flipping pages like crazy! How have I not stumbled upon her work until now?! The plot was not just engaging; it was downright gripping and had the perfect blend of murder, suspense, and chemistry that kept my heart racing.
Meet Inara, a detective with a complicated past and a strong sense of show more justice, trying to juggle her job fighting crime while battling her own demons. Her world takes a wild turn when she crosses paths with Rex Roy, an enigmatic billionaire. Little does she know, Rex has been monitoring her every move for quite some time. The tension between her and Rex is electric, but it thickens when Rex’s obsession with Inara and his own pursuit of justice spirals into dangerous territory. Just when you think it’s going to be a classic romance, things get real messy and dark!
The suspense in this story is absolutely gripping! Savino masterfully blends dark themes with tantalizing magnetic pull between Inara and Rex. It’s a dangerous dance of submission and control that keeps you glued to the page. Not to mention there is a kinky Batman theme going on that had me totally captivated!
The cliffhanger at the end of the book left me breathless and yearning for more. Just when you think Inara’s safety is guaranteed, another threat lurks in the shadows. What happens next? You’ll have to read to find out, because trust me, you won’t want to miss the continuation of this tantalizing saga.
In conclusion, if you love dark romance with a hefty dose of suspense and riveting characters, Lee Savino’s latest novel is a must-read. I am on the edge of my seat for book two!
Thank you to Ms. Savino for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Now this is what I am talking about
I struggled with the first book until about half way and then the book took off. I can gladly attest to the fact that these authors continued with that momentum in this book because sweet holy titfire was this intense. The stage is clearly set and the players are all engaged in an out and out war.
This is definitely gritty and dark at times. Yet, it had to be in order to show the inner demons that these characters have. It fuels their motivations and show more allowed me, as the reader, to understand the stakes and also what makes these characters tick. I really am loving who these characters represent in mythology and knowing these characters a little more, like Cora and Marcus, it really makes the storyline sink its teeth in.
In the first book, Cora frustrated me quite a bit because of her naivete. However, she has grown up in this book. A LOT. She is strong and fearless and no longer sheltered. Marcus still is more dark than light, and by light I mean Cora is the only "light" he sees. Yet, that is perfect because it gives him a softness at times that he otherwise wouldn't have. There is a reason that light needs dark and visa versa. The steam between these two. Sweet Holy Joseph, Mary, Gabriel, and Baby Jesus.. I honestly was worried about my iPad overheating. HOT AF.
This ends on a cliffhanger and boy oh boy am I cussing out these authors right now. I cannot wait for the next part. show less

Paranormal romance is generally a hit or miss for me. It takes a lot for me to truly get into the book. Why this is I am not sure. Maybe it is because they aren't real per se. This book was not like so many of the others. From the beginning I was sucked in. While I might not believe vampires or werewolves are real, I DO believe in metaphysical things like visions or ghosts. I know it makes no sense.
Anyway the moment I read about Amber having headaches/visions I was all in. Amber had snark. show more She was believable. She wanted to be normal. My heart hurt that she'd been in the system. All things I know personally. I connected with her. Garrett, holy hell. I need werewolves to be real so I can find myself one. He was an Alpha, figuratively and literally in every sense of the word. I wanted to put my mark on him if that was possible. The plot of the story was fantastic and had me invested. I'm sooooo looking forward to Sedona's story.
I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. I'm thankful I did as it introduced me to a whole new series. 4.5 stars. show less
