I devoured this story and Max presents readers with so many red herrings that it’s so hard to figure out who is threatening Eli. I adored the dynamic between Eli and Benji and even when things fell apart, the scene following was wonderfully heartfelt and sweet. This story is also so very steamy making it not a total swoon-fest even if Benji’s devotion will hit you right in your feels. This story has the same wonderful edge and forbidden elements that I loved about Edge of Control and I couldn’t put these guys down. show less

I checked, and I have now read or listened to every book that Max Walker has thus far, pulled out of his head and put on paper...some of them more than once. This one, Love and Monsters, is the start of a new series..."The Book Club Boys". Like all of Max Walker's books, I absolutely loved it. The characters of Noah and Jake are so good together from the time that they first met. They are coworkers as well as friends. Noah is fairly sure that Jake is straight but is surprised and happy to show more learn that Jake is bi. Noah has a book club composed of friends that he has known all his life and knowing Noah's love of reading, he invites him to join the next book club meeting. While at the meeting a package is delivered to Noah’s neighbor instead of Noah's home. This starts the mystery. Noah is frightened to think that anyone would do this to him, and the police was less than enthused to be much help, so Jake invites Noah to spend the night at his house. Of course, we know that this will start what will bloom into a sweet romance. That there was ever going to be a romance was evident from this point on, but they didn't just kiss and fall into bed right away. I really liked that they instead, set out to get to know more about one another before sparks ignited too much. Noah was still receiving scary, unwanted "gifts" from who by now we knew to be a stalker. It was actually pretty late in the book before anything heavier took place between Noah and Jake but was well worth waiting for. The mystery was well done, and the secondary characters were hilarious. Max Walker dangled the " gift bearing stalker's" identity in front of us almost from the start, but I never made the right connection...but I know that I can't wait to read the next one. show less

It's a thriller that expertly weaves together crime, romance along with physiological drama. Jace is our newest member of Stonewall Investigations. I felt rather sorry for him as it seems that he had fell in love, lust...whatever you want to call it, for the serial killer...yes...the very same serial killer that he was hunting. Like most of M. Walker's stories, it is far from simple, and each chapter brings us more new thrills.

Just like "real life", Theo isn't all good, but neither is he all bad. You will not only fell more in love with all of these guys but also with this entire story as you are pulled deeper into the need for all of them to somehow get their happiness. At times it seemed that things would never work out but just keep reading. Max Walker doesn't disappoint the readers. I really like this series and intend to add them all to my overflowing bookcase.

The story can certainly be called "steamy", The chemistry between the characters is hot, but it it's also complex and dark with having lots of secrets and intrigue, along with dark pasts, and characters who are flawed but still good - at heart individuals. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat... not only for the first kiss, but for that moment when Jace finally figures out who Theo is. Theo was fascinating. He’s a killer with a heart and a strict code. At times he deeply in control of himself and the situation and other times he falls apart.

Jace is an investigator with plenty of his own darkness. I liked Max Walker's careful representation of the character’s mental health and the attention to the details given to represent their individual experiences. The story is dark, but I found both characters very relatable. There is also an unexpected story between the pages, but you will have to look carefully for it. 5 well-earned stars! show less

I have waited for the conclusion of the Unicorn saga and boy did this book NOT disappoint. I feel in love with Zane and Enzo in book 1 and this story just made me want to keep them in my life. These two men are a joy to read about, as well as the other characters within Stonewall Investigations. This story is clever, and I believe one of the best books Max Walker has written. I never guessed who the Unicorn was and was a bit disappointed to learn the identity. It was like learning that your show more best friend was a serial killer in their spare time. show less
